The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is used in Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria to determine students who qualify for secondary schools. The exam is written after the third year in Junior Secondary School. In Sierra Leone, the exam is led by WAEC and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education; in Ghana, it is administered by Ghana Education Service under the Ministry of Education; and in Nigeria by the State Ministry of Education and supervised by the National Examinations Council (NECO).
